Aluminum extrusion has many unique advantages, especially when compared with die casting, which is another popular metal forming method.
In die casting, molten metal is injected into a mold from aluminum pipe supplier, which can be understood as a mold. To visualize the method intuitively, imagine pouring the batter into a tin to form a cake; the batter is molten metal, and tin is the mold, so the final product—the cake—is the resulting complex shape. These complex shapes can include complex cross-sections. Extrusion also allows the processing of very brittle materials because the fabric only handles shear and compressive stress.
Although die casting is a flexible and reliable process suitable for many applications and industries, the cost of extrusion is much lower due to the lower die costs involved. In addition, parts made using an extrusion process are usually as strong and rigid as parts made using a die-casting process. Extruded parts are even more ductile than parts made using die-casting processes. Generally, die casting is best for applications that require parts that do not have a uniform cross-section.
